U.S. STEEL ANNOUNCES PERMANENT SHUTDOWN OF IRON AND STEELMAKING AT HILTON WORKS ENDING OVER 100 YEARS OF STEELMAKING ACTIVITIES IN HAMILTON.

On October 29, 2013 U.S. Steel Corporation, a U.S. giant monopoly headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with worldwide operations announced that it would permanently shut down the iron and steelmaking operations which it controls at Hilton Works on December 31, 2013, thus ending over 100 years of steelmaking activities in the city of Hamilton. FOUR CUPW RETIRED ACTIVISTS HONOURED AT THE NOVEMBER GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE UNION.

At the general monthly membership meeting held on November 3, 2013 the Ottawa local of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers proudly honoured four of its retired members for their outstanding contributions to the struggle of postal workers for their rights and for their overall dedication to the well-being of the membership and to that of the Union over a long period of time.
